Due to the easy access to multi-media sexual images and the affect on sexual belief systems and mores, there appears to be a growing number of reports of inappropriate sexual behaviors on the part of juveniles Not all of them reach the level necessitating harsh penalties but are indicative of thinking patterns that could lead to more serious offenses without intervention.
To lower the risk of future problems, OpenDoor Counseling, offers the Boundaries Program that treats juveniles by introducing concepts related to: changing dysfunctional thinking patterns; developing empathy for the potential victim and others; understanding and practicing “true consent”; setting life goals; developing an understanding of negative affect of future offending; creating appropriate boundaries; developing appropriate relationships; building strong, healthy support systems; and understanding the biology of sex.
The OpenDoor Boundaries Program utilizes psychotherapeutic assessment and treatment as determined is appropriate for each individual along with a psycho-educational component. Caregivers may also be asked to attend sessions on an “as needed” basis. The length of treatment is dependent upon the juvenile’s special issues/needs, learning capability and ability to integrate treatment concepts.
